Important: These are only one person's interpretations of the prompts. They're open to your own interpretation as you remix and, if you feel like it, I welcome additional ideas/points of view in the comments. Also, as I mentioned in the rules, some overlap is possible, so keep that in mind as you look at the prompts.
I've tried to sort the prompts into several categories, just to make it easier to post these extended explanations of each prompt.
So let's start with what I'm calling "Style Prompts" for lack of a better phrase. They're also all things that are allowed in Remix Redux, so if you've remixed before, they're probably going to be familiar choices.
Prompt One: Remix the story through a POV shift.
This is pretty self-explanatory. It may seem basic, but changing the POV of a story can make a huge difference.
Prompt Two: Remix by adding something to the beginning of the story.
For this prompt, you still need to intersect at least part of the original story's timeline, so this isn't exactly the same as just writing a prequel. To use an SGA episode as an example, this would be like starting from the part of the episode "Hide and Seek" where Rodney came to John and asked him to help test the personal shield and going through the point in the actual episode where John said, "I shot him. In the leg."
Prompt Three: Remix by adding something to the end of the story.
Again, you must include at least part of the original story, so this is like writing an episode tag that starts with the last act/chapter of the episode. Please note: you may change the ending of the story if you like, but you still must start from some point in the original narrative.
Prompt Four: Remix by adding or subtracting scenes from the story.
This one's pretty obvious; I'm not sure what else to say about it. I think of it as a different prompt than Two and Three because the idea here is to add or subtract scenes from within the fic, instead of adding on to the beginning or the end.
Prompt Five: Remix by changing the style or feel of the story.
This kind of a catch all category. You can make stylistic changes--such as changing the narrative voice from third person to first person. You can change feel of the story--for example, take a fluffy happy romance and remix it a twisted and dysfunctional romance. How about playing around with an unreliable narrator? Tense changes also fit in this category.
Prompt Six: Remix by changing the order of events, either in the re-telling of the story or actually changing the causality in-fic.
This can involve remixing the story in a different order--tell the story backwards for example, or as a series of flashbacks interspersed with the "now" of the story and so on. The other thing you can do with this prompt is actually reorder the events of the story itself-- move a scene forward or backwards in time.
Questions on these particular prompts? Suggestions on how to use them? This is the place.
I'd like to thank the following people who offered ideas for prompts and/or let me bounce ideas off them. If I've left you out, my apologies; feel free to correct met.
